Social, Moral, Spiritual, Cultural and British Values at Thrunscoe

Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development is the over-arching umbrella that encompasses personal development across the whole of our curriculum. In support of this, we have designed our own Assembly Calendar which has a variety of themes to support pupils' personal development, allowing them additional time beyond the classroom to show an interest in exploring SMSC and British Values to aid their understanding of the world around them and the showing of respect for others.

In addition to this, we have added assembly themes to encourage children to show acceptance and engagement with the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs so pupils develop and demonstrate skills and attitudes that will allow them to participate fully in and contribute positively to life in modern Britain.

SMSC is ‘at the heart’ of our school development. It requires pupils to think about the kind of people we aspire to be, the kind of world we aspire to create, and the kind of education we need to aspire in life.
